Professional Life: You Have It Together More Than You Think

Everyone moves differently, you know.  Some people take breaks after high school before going to college to get some real world experience, and some people don’t even go to college.  I graduated undergrad in 2012, and I didn’t start grad school until 2016.  Most people told me that if you don’t go right back to school after college, you’ll most likely never go back.  I waited 4 years. Awkward Black Girl At Work

My first job was at a car wash, and my boss loved to tell me how he had never dated black women, but how beautiful we were. I was 16.  He’d make comments about my body shape and my looks, and one day it was uncomfortable enough that I did mention it to higher management.  He was admonished, and then I was moved to a different department.  See how that works.

Professional Baes: To Friend or Not To Friend?

I am currently on several social media.  I am easy to find on Facebook and many of my posts are public. Historically, I’ve been more protective of my Instagram.  On Instagram, I’m living my best life, straight flexin’, and taking the most filtered of selfies.  However, the fly girl I am on the weekends, is not the shy girl I am in the office.  It used to be my preference to not have people from work follow that account.

Is Your Resume Ready?

 I know, you’re ballin outrageous, and you get along with most of your coworkers, so you think you’ve hit the jackpot.  Just because you’re not looking for a job doesn’t mean a job isn’t looking for you!  If you’re networking, or doing well at your company, you may find yourself being invited to interview for positions you had only thought about pursuing years down the line. People will want to see your resume, so have it (mostly) ready just in case.
